About Me
May 28th 2008
The native Texan launched his career as a Strength and Conditioning expert while attending college at Rice and Sam Houston State Universities. While a student-athlete, Calvin earned honors in the Southwest, Lone Star and Gulf Star Conferences for excellence on the field.
After graduation, he spent a semester as an intern at Sam Houston State University’s athletic department. It was there that Calvin noticed that female athletes seemed to respond differently to the effects of strength training than their male counterparts. Consequently, Calvin embarked on an eight-year research program, studying how nutrition, hormones and strength training programs differed between men and women with respect to improving athletic performance.
Calvin has always had an entrepreneurial spirit creating several organizations:
· 4 BETTER BODIES founded in 1992, a national Health and Wellness Company, committed to the health of the total person. He developed 4BB Coach in 1994, a customized training program specifically designed for individuals who seek the absolute best in Personal Training without a Personal Trainer.
· Performance Sports Training in 2002 which allows a more focused approached toward improving the athletic performance of young athletes.
· P.A.S.S. in 2004, Power Agility Speed and Strength a summer youth athletic camp.
· Council for Family Health Education (CFHE) in 2005 a nonprofit corporation, whose mission is to create physical activities that require parent child participation to fight the spread of obesity.
Calvin is an award winning public speaker and has developed numerous seminars, which he conducts throughout the country on Health, Nutrition Performance Training and the Mind and Body connection. He is one of a few licensed Study of Man instructors. Study of Man is a comprehensive overview of how the Mind’s thoughts and ideals reveal itself on the body.
He has worked as a College Professor, in the Houston Community College System, where he worked to build a foundation in Exercise Physiology for Physical Education students as they prepare for a career in Health Education.
He received his certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) in 1992 from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The C.S.C.S. certification is recognized as the foremost certification in the industry as sanctioned by the National Commission for Certifying Agency (NCCA).
Being recognized as an expert in the field of Strength and Conditioning, Calvin was invited to the Peoples Republic of China as an Ambassador for Strength Training. The Delegation of Ambassadors visited 10 facilities in 3 Chinese Cities (Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai) as part of a professional exchange program. The exchange of information focused on Weight Training for Elite Level Athletes, Improving Athletic performance, Physical Fitness for the General Population and Nutritional requirements for people involved in physically demanding activities.
