We Are Not Eating Enough Fruits and Veggies
March 9th 2010 08:00 am
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), less than 10% of High School teens in the U.S. eat enough fruits and veggies.
The CDC surveyed both adults and high school teens, in 2007 about their daily consumption of fruits and veggies. Only 32% of those surveyed said they ate at least 2 servings of fruit per day and only 13% ate 3 daily allowances of veggies.
Southern states scored far less than North eastern states and schools that scored highest were likely to make fresh fruits and veggies available on their campus. This study reveled that the government’s goal of 75% of people who consume 2 daily fruit servings and 50% from veggies by 2010 is not going to happen.
