Kids today are “soft”, this according to research from Essex University evaluating the changing fitness abilities of modern children. Evaluated a decade apart based on physical strength, the study revealed that 10 year old from 1998 were capable of outrunning 95% of 10 year olds in 2008. This study aimed at addressing the children physical fitness levels outside of their body weight.
Researchers purposely conducted this study to test the hypothesis that being of a normal weight does not necessarily mean that a person is physically healthy. The participants from both the 1998 group and the 2008 group were of similar weight. However test based on their speed and endurance in a shuttle run, a significant decline in ability over the course of just 10 years was obvious and troubling.
So as I said we can officially tell our kids or grand kids that they are soft compared to kids in our generation. Or can we. But for sure this study continue the research that is being done to show that although obesity among kids are an alarming concern but even kids who are “of normal weight and size” aren’t proving any better.
