Recent studies from Sweden have discovered that weight loss is an effective treatment against sleep apnea in obese men. The study revealed that a mere 50% reduction in sleep apnea cases followed a weight loss regimen where participants lost on average 42 lbs.

Sleep apnea is a disorder where breathing is interrupted during sleep due to a blocked or collapsed airway. The most recognized treatment for sleep apnea is the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine to insure proper breathing.

This study demonstrates that losing weight is an effective means of treating sleep apnea and eliminating the need for the CPAP machine. Additionally, 20% of those who lost significant amount of weight were cured of the disease completely.
